2022 Big Trip - Pancake Bay Provincial Park

Night 3 - Ontario

From Chutes, we continued west through Ontario towards Pancake Bay Provincial Park. We started out with some rain and clouds most of the way to Sault St Marie, where we stopped for a walk in the big park by the water. We were met with quite a bit of fog and some rain for the rest of the drive to Pancake Bay.

By the time we stopped at Voyageur’s Restaurant (nearly 5 pm!) to get some apple fritters, they were sold out for the day. Darn. We checked out the gift shop and bought some muffins instead. Just after we pulled out, our car told us that our left signal/light on the trailer was out. Not good! We pulled over at the Esso a few kms up the road and checked it out. Sure enough, it wasn’t working. Not knowing what we should do, we decided to just unplug and plug back in first – thankfully, that seemed to solve it! Yippee!

We only had a few more km to drive and we were at Pancake Bay. We pulled in and the temperature had dropped! It was getting chilly. We quickly set up and I took Daisy for a walk. We walked all the way to the end of the park road and back – over 3 km. Our site was close to the dog beach, but we didn’t go there as it was pretty cold out.

On our walk, we met a couple with 3 dogs – 2 of them Cavs – a Blenheim and a tricolour. Penny and Winnie are the two names I remembered. Daisy wasn’t helpful with the other names.

We swam at Samuel de Champlain and didn’t shower at Chutes, so we both went for a shower. We headed to the new comfort station and found that the showers were pretty good. It took about 15-20 seconds to warm up and then the temperature was great.

We ate left over kabobs for supper along with potatos and raw carrots. Yum. We finished with Banana loaf for dessert. We were all tired so we curled up to watch the Shania Twain movie - I Still Believe. We both really enjoyed it! But really, it’s hard not to love a movie about a female Canadian powerhouse..

We turned out the lights early, right after the movie. Daisy slept in and we woke her up for a change! The sun was shining and the temperature was nice and cool.

Chris took Daisy for a walk while I made some coffee and then we packed up and said goodbye to Pancake Bay.

Our third time at Pancake Bay without having an apple fritter seemed to be just wrong. So, we backtracked our route a tiny bit to pick up fresh apple fritters and ended up getting breakfast sandwiches also. They were all delicious.

We were on the road to Neys Provincial Park by 10:30 am. It was a nice and sunny day with hardly any traffic and lots of passing lanes. The views were so pretty!

Chutes Provincial Park - Pancake Bay Provincial Park (with a stop in Sault Ste Marie)

Towing: 293 km

Driving: 0 km

Water Tank: 15% remaining

Black Tank: 44% full

Battery: 12.4

We didn’t dump on our way out so that we’d be able to use the last little bit of water in the fresh water tank and add to the not quite full black tank.

We never unhitched as it was an overnight, so it was easy to pull out – just reattach the electrical, lift the back stabilizers and put on the sway bar.
